Internal Investigations

Our team of lawyers includes former prosecutors who served in both the federal and state criminal justice systems. We have unparalleled experience in conducting internal investigations on behalf of public corporations, private businesses, government entities and nonprofit institutions.

Investigations encompass fact-finding in response to specific inquiries, as well as proactive troubleshooting. Many clients retain us after having received subpoenas, administrative agency changes, search warrants, civil investigative demands, shareholder demands, internal complaints, and informal requests for information. In response, our attorneys efficiently and methodically interview critical employees and witnesses and review relevant data and documents. Our abiding goal is to provide key stakeholders with the information necessary to traverse an investigation. Educational institutions, in particular, face challenges that require timely fact-finding and analysis to protect the rights of faculty, students, and other citizens on campus.  Our team has deep experience in Title IX compliance. Our team also has been retained by Special Litigation Committees to investigate and respond to shareholder demands under Pennsylvania’s Corporations Act.

Often the most useful investigations are those not designed to respond to a specific government inquiry. Our firm has been retained by organizations large and small to provide insight into a perceived problem, conflict, internal report, or adverse media coverage. These investigations range from allegations of sexual harassment and hostile work environments to employee theft and improper billing. Our team includes Certified Fraud Examiners and an attorney certified in Health Care Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) and the Compliance Certification Board (CCB). When necessary, we partner with forensic accountants and other knowledgeable professionals to fully protect our clients’ interests.

Below is a nonexhaustive list of industries and subjects in which our firm has conducted investigations:

  • Hospitals
  • Nursing facilities
  • Private medical practices
  • Colleges and universities
  • Religious institutions
  • Natural gas fracking companies
  • Water treatment facilities

  • Securities dealers and brokers
  • Law firms
