JOHN H. WILLIAMS JR. is special counsel at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, where he focuses his practice on civil litigation and appellate advocacy. With over three decades of experience, Mr. Williams has worked on hundreds of cases and has served as lead counsel in more than 90 appeals.
Mr. Williams began his legal career clerking for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and, since then, his appellate work has covered a broad spectrum of complex legal issues. These include insurance coverage and bad faith, product liability, corporate fiduciary duties, construction, civil rights, prosecutorial misconduct, legal malpractice, and mandamus and prohibition practice. He has represented a wide array of clients—including Fortune 500 companies, judges, governmental entities, law firms, and individuals—before both state and federal appellate courts.
In his civil litigation practice, Mr. Williams has defended manufacturers and distributors across a range of industries, including automotive, rail, and consumer products. He also maintains a robust insurance coverage practice, representing both policyholders and insurers. Notably, in 2006, he secured what was then the largest bad faith verdict in Pennsylvania history—$20 million in punitive damages, in addition to compensatory damages and attorney’s fees—against an insurance carrier.
A frequent lecturer, Mr. Williams has taught numerous CLE programs on appellate practice, insurance litigation, and civil procedure. He earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was President of the Student Bar Association and received the Order of the Barrister. He holds a B.A. from Edinboro University.
