PITTSBURGH, PA (January 4, 2016) – John A. Schwab, partner in the Pittsburgh office of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, is the recipient of the Nora Barry Fischer Award for 2015. The Nora Barry Fischer Award serves to recognize an attorney within the Firm who has given back to the legal profession and the community at large.
Mr. Schwab has shown such a commitment to the legal profession and the community through his involvement in numerous organizations. He is currently Co-Chair of the Military Affairs and Veteran’s Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association (“ACBA”) and past Co-Chair of the ACBA’s Federal Court Criminal Practice Subcommittee. Mr. Schwab is also the Treasurer of Operation Valor Arts, a National Veterans Initiative. He was appointed in 2012 to the White Collar Crime Committee for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In addition, Mr. Schwab is a member of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law, the Editorial Board for the Journal of Law and Public Policyfor Grove City College, the ABA Criminal Justice Section, and the Third Circuit Review Program Committee of the ACBA. He also represents indigent criminal defendants as a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel.
Mr. Schwab has previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2002 to 2009, including as the Chief Trial Attorney at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. During his tenure with the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as trial counsel for 10 jury trials to verdict and more than 20 bench trials. He also served as the Battalion Judge Advocate in Fallujah, Iraq for 2d Battalion, 6th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 6 for the U.S. Marine Corps as the legal counsel for the battalion.
Mr. Schwab is a member of the Litigation; Qui Tam; Government Enforcement, Compliance, and White Collar; and Cyber Liability & Technology Law Practice Groups at Pietragallo. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Mr. Schwab received his law degree from Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University and his B.S. from Grove City College. Mr. Schwab has been selected by The Legal Intelligencer as Lawyers on the Fast Track and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star in White Collar Defense.
