Alan G. Towner
ALAN G. TOWNER, a partner with Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, is Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Group.Mr. Towner has practiced in all phases of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law. He handles such matters as preparing and prosecuting patent, trademark and copyright applications, patentability opinions, patent infringement and validity studies, trademark clearance opinions, trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, Internet domain name disputes, patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation, and general intellectual property counseling.
He began his career as a Patent Examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, specializing in mechanical areas of technology. He also has experience as a research associate and patent agent in the aerospace industry, where he handled diverse technologies including metal alloys, composites and ceramics. In private practice since 1992, he has dealt with a broad range of technologies in the chemical, material, mechanical, data storage and e-commerce areas.
Mr. Towner is a member of the Pennsylvania and Maryland bars and admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, as well as the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Towner is a member of the Western District of Pennsylvania Local Patent Rules Committee.
He is a member and officer of the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association; The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society; and the American Society of Materials.
He received his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was a member of the university's Intellectual Property Moot Court Team. He received his bachelor's degree with honors in Engineering Science from the Pennsylvania State University.
