MARY MARGARET HILL is a senior associate in the Insurance Coverage and Appellate, Commercial Litigation and Litigation Defense Practice Groups of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP.
Ms. Hill’s practice is focused on insurance-related issues, including coverage analysis and bad faith insurance litigation, as well as litigation related to products liability, professional liability, toxic torts, commercial and business transactions, general negligence and contract disputes. She has represented large and small businesses, insurance companies, agents, brokers, physicians, accountants, and a diversity of other commercial entities and individuals.
Matters representative of Ms. Hill’s practice include:
- Handling all legal aspects related to insurance coverage matters, including: complex policy analysis; preparation of coverage opinion letters; preparation of coverage denial and reservation of rights letters; advising insurance professionals (including insurers, adjusters, agents and brokers) on proper claims handling practices and procedures.
- Initiating, defending and/or prosecuting insurance coverage and bad faith litigation in state and federal courts.
- Representing corporate and individual policyholders in insurance-related matters, including policy negotiation, claim submittals, and coverage disputes regarding pending claims.
- Drafting of insurance policy language for policyholders, brokers and insurers to tailor the coverage provided to the risk sought to be insured.
- Representation of large and small product manufacturers and retailers against product liability claims, including toxic torts.
- Representation of numerous professionals and business entities in commercial disputes and other business-related litigation matters.
She has spoken before numerous local and national professional organizations on such topics as insurance law fundamentals, emerging issues in insurance law, additional insured endorsements, conspicuity issues related to policy exclusions and conditions, agent and broker liabilities, bad faith and ethics. Ms. Hill has published several articles regarding insurance law and bad faith. She also frequently speaks to in-house claims professionals, and provides instruction and guidelines as to proper claims handling procedures and communications with insureds.
Ms. Hill received her law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, graduating with honors. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon.
Ms. Hill is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California and West Virginia. She is also admitted to practice before the Third, Fourth, Sixth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as numerous federal district courts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California and West Virginia.
