Alexandra C. Gaugler

ALEXANDRA C. GAUGLER is a senior associate with the firm of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, in its Philadelphia office. She is a member of the White Collar Criminal Defense and Federal and State Qui Tam Litigation groups.

Ms. Gaugler focuses her practice in the areas of White Collar Criminal Defense, Federal and State Qui Tam Litigation,  and Commercial Disputes.  Ms. Gaugler  has handled a wide variety of white collar criminal cases, including the defense of individuals implicated in health care fraud and public corruption criminal investigations. In addition, Ms. Gaugler has experience handling complex qui tam actions brought under federal and state false claims acts.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Gaugler held the position of Senior Manager of Ethics & Corporate Compliance at Endo Pharmaceuticals in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.  In that role, Ms. Gaugler developed and implemented compliance policies and procedures for a publicly traded pharmaceutical company with over $1 billion in sales.  Ms. Gaugler trained both field sales professionals and company management on the increasingly complex fraud and abuse risk areas facing the pharmaceutical industry.

Ms. Gaugler served as a Staff Attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1998-1999.  She joined the Philadelphia litigation boutique firm of Miller Alfano & Raspanti P.C. as an associate in January 2000.  Ms. Gaugler’s typical representations with that firm included:

  • Member of trial team that successfully defended a dermatologist charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania with 79 counts of health care fraud.

  • Defended a payment processing company in an action brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania under the civil anti-fraud injunction statute. 

  • Represented employees of a major pharmaceutical company in an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts into the company’s sales and marketing activities.

  • Negotiated favorable guilty plea for a dermatologist charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota with purchasing and administering a non-FDA approved version of Botox.

Ms. Gaugler is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, the National Association of Women Lawyers, as well as the Bar Association of the Third Federal Circuit.  In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (PACDL).  Ms. Gaugler has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Criminal Law Committee for the Federal Bar Association and a Steering Committee Member for the Philadelphia Young Lawyers Division of the ABA White Collar Crime Committee.  She has been a course planner and presenter for PACDL’s For The Experienced annual seminar for criminal law practitioners.  Ms. Gaugler is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, and the Justinian Society.

Ms. Gaugler was appointed by the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to serve as a Hearing Committee Member.  In the role, she serves on a three-member panel tasked with overseeing hearings related to attorney discipline and issuing rulings for consideration by the Disciplinary Board.

Ms. Gaugler received her J.D., cum laude, from the Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America, where she was awarded a full one-year merit scholarship.  While attending the Columbus School of Law, Ms. Gaugler was a member of the Catholic University Law Review.  Ms. Gaugler earned her B.A. from Haverford College, where she was Captain of the Women’s Varsity Squash Team and President of the student/alumni organization.
