James E. Abraham
JAMES E. ABRAHAM is Of Counsel with the Business Group of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP.
Mr. Abraham focuses his practice in the areas of employee benefits, tax, estate planning, mergers & acquisitions, and nonprofit law. His industry experience includes the energy, pharmaceutical and steel sectors. Additionally, he serves as the “family lawyer” for several families where he oversees such diverse areas as asset acquisition and divestiture, asset protection, and estate planning. Mr. Abraham also counsels a number of nonprofit corporations with particular emphasis on mergers and strategic alliances.
Mr. Abraham had started his own law firm on January 1, 2006. Prior to that, he had been a partner and co-chair of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis’s employee benefit practice. He was also one of the founders of the law firm Doepken Keevican & Weiss, where he chaired that firm’s tax and employee benefit department.
He is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American bar associations. Mr. Abraham recently completed a six-year term as board chair of ACBA Services, Inc., the taxable subsidiary of the Allegheny County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Allegheny Tax Society and the Pittsburgh Tax Club.
In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Abraham has held adjunct professorships in the MBA program at Point Park University and the Masters of Taxation program at Robert Morris University. In the latter position, which lasted 15 years, Mr. Abraham taught courses in employee and pension benefits, and nonprofit organizations.
Active in the community, Mr. Abraham is board chair of WQED Multimedia, and also serves on the boards of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Quantum Theatre, and the national board of governors of the Pituitary Network Association.
Mr. Abraham received his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law and earned his B.A. from Dickinson College. He is licensed in Pennsylvania and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.
